Werner Buck

Karel Werner Buck (born July 19, 1925 in Kerkrade , Limburg province ; † October 9, 2010 in Maastricht , Limburg province) was a Dutch politician of the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP) and most recently the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA), who among other things between 1971 and 1973 State Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Regional Planning in the Biesheuvel cabinet .

Life

After attending school, Buck completed a degree in business administration at the Katholische Wirtschaftshochschule Tilburg (Katholieke Economische Hogeschool Tilburg) , which he graduated on December 3, 1952. Subsequently, in December 1952, he joined the board of the NV Buck blanket factory in Kerkrade, which belonged to his family, and was a member of it until August 1971. In addition, he began his political engagement for the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP) in local politics at the end of the 1950s and was a member of the Kerkrade municipal council from September 2, 1958 to August 17, 1971 as well as an alderman ( Wethouder ) for economics and finances of Kerkrade . In addition, he was from June 3, 1970 to August 17, 1971 also a member of the Provincial Parliament ( Provinciale Staten ) of the Province of Limburg .

On August 17, 1971, Prime Minister Barend Biesheuvel appointed him State Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Regional Planning (Staatssecretaris van Economische Zaken) in his government and held this office until May 11, 1973. In this role, he was responsible for urban renewal and redevelopment responsible for city districts. On June 8, 1973 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Dutch Lion .

After his resignation from the government, Buck, who had been a member of the Christen Democratisch Appèl (CDA) since October 11, 1980 , was again a member of the Limburg Province Parliament from November 15, 1973 to April 28, 1987 June 1974 and April 28, 1987 as a member of the Gedeputeerde State government of the Province of Limburg and provincial minister responsible for economics and regional planning there. He then acted from September 1, 1987 to July 1, 1990 as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Open University of the Netherlands in Heerlen . He was also in command of the New Year's Eve .

His marriage to Yvonne Maria Susanne Smeets in 1952 resulted in four sons and two daughters, including the CDA politician Yvonne Timmerman-Buck , who was among other things chairwoman of the First Chamber of the States General between 2003 and 2009 .
