Werner Fischer (historian)

Werner Fischer (born April 29, 1931 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra , Bolivia ) is a German historian . The Director of Studies a. D. from the Messkirch suburb of Heudorf in Baden-Wuerttemberg has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon . Until May 2017 he was director of the Meßkircher Heimatmuseum.

Live and act

In 1938 Fischer came to Germany with his parents to visit their grandparents. A return to Bolivia was no longer possible because of the outbreak of war in 1939, so the family stayed in Germany. They lived in Müllheim , where Fischer attended school. After graduating from high school in 1950, he studied German, history and philosophy in Freiburg im Breisgau and received his doctorate in 1957. He then went to England as a teacher for a year. On January 9, 1961, he was transferred to Meßkirch and began his service as a study assessor at what was then the Progymnasium there (German, history, social studies, English). Later he moved to the Martin-Heidegger-Gymnasium. Werner Fischer was chairman of the Kreutzer Choir in Messkirch until January 1986. In 1995, Fischer retired as Director of Studies and Deputy Headmaster.

  • 2008: Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany for his many years of outstanding voluntary work
  • 2011: Kreutzer Medal, the highest award of the Meßkircher Kreutzer Choir, for its longstanding commitment in and around the choir
  • Bearer of the citizen medal of the city of Meßkirch
