Werner Gegenbauer (born May 28, 1950 in Berlin ) is a German entrepreneur , former economic functionary and President of Hertha BSC since 2008 .

Life

After graduating from the Marie-Curie-Oberschule in Berlin-Wilmersdorf , Gegenbauer did an apprenticeship in the glass and brass cleaning company founded by his father Carl Gegenbauer in 1925 in Berlin as well as in London and Switzerland. While still as an apprentice, he founded his own cleaning company with a Swiss partner in 1971, which after three years already had 500 employees. After the journeyman's examination, Gegenbauer also passed the master's examination in the cleaning trade. In 1979 he joined the management of the family business. In 1982 Gegenbauer was elected chairman of the building cleaning guild, in 1986 he took over the management of the Gegenbauer group of companies , which had had a second location in Stuttgart since 1950. Today he chairs the group's supervisory board.

Gegenbauer expanded the group of companies to include new independent business areas and specialist companies in the field of security services as well as facility management for the healthcare and housing sectors. In 1997 he founded the Velomax Hallenbetriebs GmbH, which operates the Berlin multi-function halls Velodrom and Max-Schmeling-Halle .

In 2001 Salamander took over 77% of the company, two years later Gegenbauer and two business partners bought part back, so that they held 51% of the voting rights. With effect from January 1, 2010, a management consortium led by Werner Gegenbauer bought back the 49% remaining shares in EnBW , so that the company is now 100% owned by Werner Gegenbauer and a management consortium.

In 1997 Gegenbauer was elected President of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry , which he remained until 2004. He is a member of the Economic Advisory Board of the Berlin State Sports Association and was responsible for the city's successful application for the 2009 World Athletics Championships . On May 2, 2006, he took over the position of Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Hertha BSC from Rupert Scholz . On May 23, 2008, he was elected the new President of Hertha BSC by the general assembly, replacing Bernd Schiphorst after 8 years in office. In addition, Gegenbauer is treasurer of the museum association of the German Historical Museum , board member of the Friends of the Komische Oper Berlin support group , chairman of the economic advisory board of radio B2 , was a board member of bbw Bildungswerk der Wirtschaft in Berlin and Brandenburg for 20 years (15 years of which was chairman of the forerunner Bildungswerk der Berliner Wirtschaft), he is involved in the Berlin Community Foundation , is a member of the Friends of the Academy of Arts and sits on the advisory board of the Berlin Treatment Center for Victims of Torture .

Gegenbauer is married and has three children.
