Werner Goldberg
Werner Goldberg ( February 9, 1919 in Berlin - September 28, 2004 ibid) was a German member of the Wehrmacht who served as a soldier in World War II and whose picture was presented in the Berliner Tageblatt as “the ideal German soldier”, although he was after the Nuremberg Laws was considered a " half-Jew ".
Life
His father grew up as a member of the Jewish community in Königsberg , but turned away from Judaism . Goldberg and his brother Martin (* 1920) were baptized at the request of their father. Until the National Socialists came to power, Goldberg did not know that his father was of Jewish origin. After Werner Goldberg's takeover, relatives were persecuted and deported to concentration camps . Werner Goldberg's father lost his job when the " Aryan Paragraph " of the law for the restoration of the civil service was followed in the private sector .
Before there was any serious fighting in the war, he was dishonorably released.
After the Second World War, Goldberg joined the CDU . From 1952 to 1958 he was a member of the District Assembly of Berlin-Wilmersdorf . He was then a member of the Berlin House of Representatives for twenty years . In 1979 he retired from politics. Goldberg was honored as the city elder of Berlin in 1985 .
Werner Goldberg's story was portrayed in 2006 in the documentary Hitler's Jewish Soldiers by Larry Price in collaboration with the Israel Broadcasting Authority .
