Werner Hofmann (politician, 1931)

Werner Hofmann (born April 20, 1931 in Kempten (Allgäu) , † August 8, 2016 in Munich ) was a German church lawyer and Bavarian senator.

Life

Hofmann attended elementary and secondary school in Kempten and Berlin , where he graduated from high school in 1949. He then studied law and economics in Göttingen and Munich , taking the first state examination in 1952 and the second in 1956. In the same year he was appointed judge on probation by the Kempten Regional Court . In 1954 he received his doctorate in Munich and entered the church service in 1958, where he was church attorney, senior church councilor and head of the secular department. From 1972 to 1996 he headed the regional church office of the Evangelical Church in Bavaria . From 1967 to 1997 he was a member of the Synod and the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany . From 1980 to 1985 he was the chairman of the community organization of Protestant journalism (GEP) and from 1986 to 1996 chairman of the Diaconal Council. In 1995 he was appointed senator and was a member of the Bavarian Senate from the beginning of 1996 until it was dissolved in 1999.

Hofmann received the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1969 for his services to the elementary school reform and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit , First Class . He died in Munich in 2016 at the age of 85.
