Werner Kaden

Werner Kaden (born January 5, 1928 in Olbernhau ) is a German musicologist . He is considered to be one of the best experts on the music history of the Ore Mountains and the city of Chemnitz .

Live and act

Werner Kaden comes from a working-class family. After primary school in Olbernhau, he graduated from the teacher training college in Annaberg / E. from 1942 until he was called up for military service in November 1944. From October 1945 he worked as a new teacher in Olbernhau . Here he founded the folk music school in 1952 and directed the Goethe High School from 1953 to 1956. He obtained university degrees in music education in 1952 after an annual course at the Martin Luther University in Halle / Wittenberg and in 1956 as a guest student at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In 1956 he was appointed as a lecturer / lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute Karl-Marx-Stadt , which later became the Zwickau University of Education. From 1963 he headed the music education department and until 1990 the musicology department. On October 1, 1990, Kaden took early retirement. He is co-founder and honorary member of the Chemnitz History Association

Kaden received his doctorate in 1965 at the Humboldt University in Berlin on the development of the workers 'singing movement in the Chemnitz Gau of the German Workers' Association from its beginnings to 1933. He defended his dissertation B on the subject of the value problem in music in 1973 at the University of Halle . From 1974 he held a full professorship at the Ernst Schneller University of Education in Zwickau for the subject of musical aesthetics . From 1985 he was a corresponding member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR . In the GDR's Association of Composers and Musicologists, he was chairman of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district association from 1975 to 1988 and, since 1972, a member of the central board and its executive committee. In addition, as chairman of the Central Expert Commission on Music Education at the Ministries for Popular Education and for the GDR's higher and technical education system, he was responsible for the structural and content-related design of the training of music educators at general schools.

Kaden publishes books and essays on music historical, aesthetic and pedagogical topics. Since 1985 he has mainly been concerned with the musical and cultural development in Chemnitz and the Ore Mountains. From 1964 to 2003 Werner Kaden also worked as a concert reviewer for the magazine " Musik und Gesellschaft " and for the " Freie Presse " Karl-Marx-Stadt / Chemnitz. He has been born with Margarete since 1952. Müller married, the couple has two daughters and has lived in Karl-Marx-Stadt / Chemnitz since 1956.
