Werner Kowalski (historian)

Werner Kowalski (born January 16, 1929 in Wanne-Eickel , Gelsenkirchen district ) is a German historian .

Life

Werner Kowalski studied history at the University of Halle from 1948 to 1952. He received his doctorate in 1960 under Leo Stern . His writings on Wilhelm Weitling and the socialists before Marx are part of the basic literature on this topic. He completed his habilitation in 1969 and was appointed professor in 1970. Most recently (until 1990) he was the head of the “General History Department of the History / Citizenship Section” at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg .
