Werner Kraft (politician)

Werner Kraft (born November 10, 1922 in Memel ) is a former German party functionary of the GDR block party NDPD . From 1954 to 1963 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR and from 1977 to 1988 chairman of the NDPD district executive in Neubrandenburg .

Life

Kraft, the son of a baker, attended elementary, middle and high school in Memel. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht for military service in 1941. He became a Soviet prisoner of war and was released into the Soviet occupation zone in 1947 .

Kraft studied pedagogy, psychology, didactics and English at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Rostock from 1947 to 1950 and passed the second teacher examination in 1950. In 1949 he joined the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) and in 1950 the National Democratic Party of Germany (NDPD) and the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF). He worked as a teacher and from 1952 to 1977 as director of the 3rd Polytechnic High School in Neustrelitz . He was from 1950 to 1954 city councilor in Neustrelitz and from 1951 to 1953 and again from 1955 chairman of the NDPD district association Neustrelitz . In 1952 he became a member of the NDPD district committee in Neubrandenburg.

From 1954 to 1963 he was a member of the NDPD parliamentary group of the People's Chamber and from 1955 to 1990 the main committee of the NDPD. From 1963 to 1967 he was a member of the party executive committee and from 1987 to 1989 a member of the presidium of the main committee of the NDPD. From April 1972 he was a member of the Central Party Control Commission of the NDPD. From October 1976 to 1989 he was a member of the Neubrandenburg district assembly . From March 1977 to July 1988 he acted as chairman of the NDPD district committee in Neubrandenburg (successor to Hans-Heinrich Puls). For reasons of age and health, he was replaced by his deputy Horst Giermann.
