Werner Lihsa (born June 3, 1943 ) is a former German soccer player from the GDR . The goalkeeper of the BFC Dynamo came to an international match for the GDR national team.

Career

Lihsa joined BFC Dynamo in 1967 from Dynamo Eisleben . Lihsa was then one of the best goalkeepers in the GDR league and reached the FDGB Cup final with the Berliners in 1971 , which Dynamo Dresden won. However, as the Saxons competed in the European Cup as GDR champions , the BFC played in the European Cup Winners' Cup . There the club did not lose a single game, but were eliminated in the semifinals on penalties against Dynamo Moscow . The tragic hero of this game was Werner Lihsa. In the previous rounds he had a major share in the success of the Berliners with his parades. In the semifinals against Moscow, however, he made a mistake when running out, which led to an equalization for Moscow and ultimately to a penalty shoot-out. Lihsa played a total of 110 point games for BFC Dynamo.

In the GDR national team, Lihsa never got past world-class goalkeeper Jürgen Croy . In 1972 he made his only international appearance in the 3-1 win against Czechoslovakia when Croy was injured shortly before. In 1975 Lihsa ended his career and later became the coach of Dynamo Königs Wusterhausen .

Later he worked as a groundsman in the Sportforum Hohenschönhausen , the home of the BFC Dynamo, and had increasing problems with alcohol. In April 2004, Lihsa killed his second wife by hitting her on the head with a bottle of champagne and then strangling her. A little later, Lihsa was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Berlin district court. The court assumed manslaughter in a less serious case, since Lihsa was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime.
