Werner Mangold (born September 19, 1934 ) is a former German football player and coach .
Player career
Werner Mangold played for the first team of 1. FC Kaiserslautern from 1954 - initially in the Oberliga Südwest , then with four other seasons the highest German division. In 1955 , 1956 , 1957 , 1958 and 1963 he took part in the final round of the German championship with the “Red Devils” and made 20 appearances. In 1955, Mangold reached the final with his team, but they lost 3: 4 against Rot-Weiss Essen . Even after the Bundesliga became the first division to be replaced by the Bundesliga in 1963 , Mangold was on the FCK squad and made 50 appearances (one goal) there by 1966. He then moved to Alsenborn, 15 km from Kaiserslautern , and played for the up-and-coming SV Alsenborn . The club had previously been promoted from the A-class to the then second-class Regionalliga Südwest . In his second Alsenborn season, 1967/68 , the team of coach Otto Render and consultant Fritz Walter won the championship in the southwest for the first time. In the first half of the season Mangold was still active, in the second half of the season and in the promotion round he was no longer part of the team. He has played a total of 36 regional league games for SVA and scored three goals. In the summer of 1968 he ended his playing career.
Later he was still on the ball for the traditional FCK team and for the "City Council".
Coaching career
The man from Kaiserslautern took over the coaching position at FC Bayern Hof in the football regional league south , where he was still active in 1969/70. Then he moved back to the south-west at home and from the 1970/71 round he took over TuS Neuendorf in the Southwest Regionalliga. Until 1973 he was the coach of the blue and black in the Oberwerth stadium . In the last season of the old second-rate regional league, 1973/74 , he was a coach at SV Alsenborn.
From 1977 Mangold worked as a coach for the amateurs of 1. FC Kaiserslautern and was assistant coach of the professional team during Karl-Heinz Feldkamp's first term.
For the 1980/81 season Mangold was introduced as the new coach at VfR Heilbronn . The target was to stay in the third class Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . This was finally achieved. This was followed by a bad start to the following season and criticism from the team about Mangold's tactical competence and his training methods. In addition, from October 1981 Werner Mangold had to suspend his coaching work because of a knee operation. Interim trainer Martin Kübler led the team to success again, so it was decided to employ him long-term as a trainer. Mangold was therefore dismissed at the end of the preliminary round. This was followed by a labor court process over continued salary payment, which ended in a settlement.
