Werner Sollors

Werner Max Sollors (born June 6, 1943 in Silesia ) is a German-American English student .

Life

Werner Sollors grew up near Frankfurt am Main and studied English at the Free University of Berlin . He was a research assistant there from 1970 and received his doctorate in 1975. He went to Columbia University in New York City as an assistant professor , and in 1982 he became an associate professor of English there. He was appointed to Harvard University , where he became Henry B. and Anne M. Cabot Professor of English and Professor of African American Studies in 1983 . Sollors held various visiting professorships.

Sollors was a Guggenheim Fellow and had a Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities . He is a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and an honorary member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . In 2001 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
