Werner Weikamp

Werner Weikamp (born September 20, 1941 in Bocholt ; † April 19, 2015 there ) was a German football player .

career

The center forward played at a young age for 1. FC Bocholt and Olympia Bocholt in the then third-class Lower Rhine regional league . In 1965 he moved to FC Schalke 04 , for which he was active in the Bundesliga for two years , but was only used five times there. Weikamp made his first game at the start of the season on August 14, 1965 in a 0-1 win against VfB Stuttgart . He played his last Bundesliga game for the miners on the 23rd matchday in the 7-0 defeat in the Revierderby against Borussia Dortmund . In 1967 he was reamateurised and went back to 1. FC Bocholt. In 1972 he moved again to FC Olympia in the association league Niederrhein, only to return to 1. FC Bocholt in 1975. With the Schwatten vom Hünting , Weikamp became Lower Rhine champions in the 1975/76 season . In the following round of promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, however, the club narrowly failed and only because of the goal difference at Bonner SC and VfL Wolfsburg . In the 1976/77 season they qualified again for the promotion round. This time the club prevailed against SVA Gütersloh and Spandauer SV and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga North . Werner Weikamp completed his only second division game against SG Union Solingen on the first match day of the 1977/78 season and ended his career in 1978 after the relegation of 1. FC Bocholt.
