Werner de Merode

Werner de Merode (born March 25, 1914 , † December 25, 1995 in Brussels ) was a Belgian diplomat .

Life

Werner de Merode, a member of the Merode family , studied social sciences , married in 1947 Mathilde Rolin had two sons and four daughters. In 1944 he was employed by the Belgian government in exile in London . From 1944 to 1946 he was accredited at the Belgian Embassy in Paris . From 1946 to 1948 he was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels. From 1958 to 1951 he was promoted to second class embassy secretary in London. From 1951 to 1953 he was promoted to Counselor in Brussels. From 1953 to 1955 he was promoted to second class embassy secretary and counselor in Athens . From 1955 to 1958 he was accredited in Ottawa . From 1958 to 1959 he was the permanent representative of the Belgian government to the EEC .

From 1959 he was accredited in Paris, where he was plenipotentiary ambassador from 1963 to 1965 . From 1965 to 1972 he headed the Europe department in Brussels and was Personnel Inspector. From 1972 to 1976 he was Belgian ambassador to the Holy See . From December 1976 to 1979 he was the Belgian ambassador in Paris. From 1980 he sat on the board of directors of the Belgian branch of Banco di Roma .
