The Belgian ambassador to the Holy See has existed since 1832, when the Belgian government first established diplomatic relations through ambassadors with the Holy See in what was then the Papal State , the Vatican on the Quirinal . Between September 1880 and January 1885 there was no diplomatic relationship between Belgium and the Holy See.
