Alexandre Paternotte de la Vaillée (* 1923 in Bern ) is a former Belgian ambassador .

Life

Alexandre Paternotte de la Vaillée is the son of Anna Crugers and the legation secretary Alexandre Paternotte de la Vaillée (born August 13, 1888 in Arquennes , Hainaut ). In 1929 he accompanied his parents to Casablanca , then to Rome and in 1932 to Tehran . In 1936 the family moved to Warsaw , where his father was the Belgian envoy. After the attack on Poland by the Wehrmacht , the family went to Ankara , where his father was an envoy. In 1943, Alexandre Paternotte de la Vaillée was accepted to study law at a Jesuit school in Beirut . In 1944 he was accepted into the Belgian armed forces in Cairo . In August 1944, his squadron landed in Arromanches-les-Bains , and in September they moved into Brussels . Then they moved to Holland and Germany.

On May 8, 1945, Alexandre Paternotte de la Vaillée was on vacation in London . In 1945 he was discharged from the army, married and entered the foreign service in 1946. From 1946 to 1949 he was an attaché in Washington , while his father was envoy in Ottawa . From 1949 to 1952 he was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels . From 1952 to 1958 he was cultural attaché in Paris . From 1957 to 1962 he worked in Brazil . From 1962 to 1966 he was responsible for science policy at the Foreign Ministry in Brussels. From 1970 to 1975 he was again accredited in Brazil. From 1975 to 1979 he was responsible for accompanying the Euro-Arab dialogue.
