Wesley Hoedt (born March 6, 1994 in Alkmaar ) is a Dutch football player .
Career
society
After his youth with the Reiger Boys and HVV Hollandia, Hoedt switched to the AZ Alkmaar junior performance center in 2005 . After going through all youth teams there until 2015, he received his first professional contract in Alkmaar in summer 2013. Hoedt made his UEFA Europa League debut on December 12, 2013 against PAOK . He made his league debut in the Eredivisie on April 6, 2014 against Roda JC Kerkrade . Wesley Hoedt has been under contract with Lazio Roma in the Italian Serie A since the 2015/16 season . On August 22, 2017 it was announced that Hoedt would move to the English Premier League club Southampton FC . He got a five-year contract there. The transfer fee should have been around 17 million euros. He made his competitive debut for Southampton on matchday four in the starting eleven in the away game at Watford , which Southampton lost 2-0. He scored his first Premier League goal as an own goal on November 4, 2018 in the 6-1 loss to Manchester City .
In January 2019, Hoedt was loaned to Celta Vigo , who plays in the Primera División , the top Spanish league, until the end of the season . A purchase option was agreed upon when the loan expires. However, this option was not exercised by Celta Vigo, so that Hoedt was initially part of the Southampton squad again in the 2019/20 season. In fact, he wasn't on the pitch at any game before he was loaned to Belgian first division Royal Antwerp for a year on September 2, 2019, again with a subsequent purchase option .
National team
From 2013 to 2014 Hoedt was used six times in the Dutch U-20 national team . From October 11, 2015 he played in the Dutch U-21 team . On March 25, 2017 he made his debut in the "Elftal" in the World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria , which Bulgaria won 2-0. In the game he was substituted on for Matthijs de Ligt at halftime . He made his starting XI debut three days later in a friendly against Italy , which the Netherlands lost 2-1. As a result, he played four more times over the full season for the national team, but was no longer part of the squad after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup .
