Wessel , Upper Sorbian Wjesel ? / i , is a village in the municipality of Radibor in the northeast of the Saxon district of Bautzen . It is part of the official Sorbian settlement area in Upper Lusatia . Wessel has 95 inhabitants. Audio file / audio sample

The place is located in the far north of the municipality on the edge of the Upper Lusatian heath and pond landscape , which is largely designated as a biosphere reserve. The Driewitz-Milkeler Heiden stretch to the north ; to Bautzen in the south it is about 16 kilometers. The place Radibor is about twelve kilometers away, the closest place is Lippitsch about one kilometer to the west.

history

The exact age of the village is unknown; the first documentary mention took place in 1353. From 1586 to 1777 the manor Lippitsch held the manor, then the manor Milkel . After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the new Saxon-Prussian border ran north not far from the town. From 1936 to 1999 the village belonged to the municipality of Milkel , then to the municipality of Radibor.
