The place name comes from the Sorbian word lipa for "linden tree". Accordingly, Lipič means "Lindenort".

location

The place is located on the southwestern edge of the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve , which occupies almost a third of the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Area , which, as part of the Saxon-Lower Lusatian Heideland, forms the most southeastern branch of the greater region of the North German Lowlands .

The Kleine Spree flows on the northern and eastern edge of the village and also feeds the ten ponds in the northern area. The Driewitz-Milkeler Heiden begins north of Lippitsch , with around 20 square kilometers one of the largest unpopulated forest areas in Lusatia.

The neighboring towns are Wessel in the east, Milkel and Teicha in the south-east, Oppitz in the south-west and Hermsdorf / Spree in the north-west.

history

The first written mention of the place took place on June 15, 1353 as Lyppitcz . The place is probably much older, which is supported by excavation finds during a road construction between Lippitsch and Oppitz in 1838. In addition, a Bronze Age burial ground was found on a hill in the northwest. The finds are exhibited in the museum in Bautzen . There are also the remains of an old moated castle between Lippitsch and Wessel.

In 1528 ponds in the vicinity of the place are mentioned for the first time. The intensive management was expanded by the Lippitsch manor. The economic situation was comparatively good at that time, so Lippitsch had an oil and grain mill and an independent restaurant.

In 1856 the manor was bought by Kurt Heinrich Ernst von Einsiedel auf Milkel and combined with his estates. The manor house was rebuilt around 1900.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 219 inhabitants in the 1880s; 206 of them were Sorbs (94%) and 13 were Germans. In 1956 Ernst Tschernik still counted 63.7% of the population in the community of Lippitsch who spoke Sorbian. Since then, the use of Sorbian has continued to decline in the village.

Until September 8, 1977 the place was an independent municipality, after which it belonged to Milkel. Since January 1st, 1999 it has been part of the Radibor municipality. On April 1, 2011, street names were given for the first time. The district road 7214 connects Wessel , Lippitsch and Oppitz . According to the wishes of the Bautzen district , it should be given to the Radibor community, if the latter agrees. Otherwise it was considered to dismantle it due to structural defects. As a result, a citizens' initiative was formed to prevent this and to preserve the street. Therefore, in 2013, a demonstration took place for the first time in the history of the place.
