action

Sleazy insurance agent Buzz Buzzard lures Woody Woodpecker into his agency and drugged him. Against his will, he takes out life insurance and acts as a beneficiary. In case of death of Woody he received 10,000 dollars . Immediately afterwards he sets about collecting this policy. He chases Woody across the agency, trying one way or another to get him around the corner. In the end, he wants to throw it into a pit full of crocodiles, but ends up in it himself. While being hunted by the crocodiles, Woody tears up the police.

background

The opening credits first appeared The Woody Woodpecker Song by Kay Kyser and his Orchestra , sung by Gloria Wood and Harry Babbit . The song was written by George Tibbles and Ramey Idriss and became a real hit even before the cartoon was published, selling more than 250,000 copies within ten days in June 1948. For this reason, the song was also included in the cartoon, although it did not fit the action in the film. The song even received a nomination for Best Song at the Academy Awards in 1949 , but lost to Buttons and Bows by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans from the film His Angel with the Two Guns . In fact, to this day, it is the only song from an animated short film that has ever been nominated for an Oscar .

Not only was the song new, but villain Buzz Buzzard made his first appearance in the cartoon.

The title “Wet Blanket Policy” is a play on words made up of “wet blanket” and “blanket policy” (German “general policy”).
