Wetherby is a small town in the Metropolitan Borough City of Leeds in the English county of West Yorkshire and had a total of 11,155 inhabitants according to the 2001 census.
history
Wetherby is first mentioned in a document in 1240 in a decree from Heinrich III. , in which he gave the place market rights and allowed an annual three-day fair. In 1318/1319 Wetherby was burned down by the Scots after the Battle of Bannockburn , killing numerous residents. In 1644, during the English Civil War , parliamentarians waited here for two days for the Scottish troops to march with them to Marston Moor .
