The betting Castle is 463.2, the highest mountain in the Hainleite in Kyffhäuserkreis in North Thuringia ( Germany ).

location

The mountain is located between the villages of Immenrode in the south and Straussberg in the northeast. The district town of Sondershausen is about eight kilometers to the east.

Although the mountain is seldom marked by name in more recent maps, the Wettenburg is mentioned as the highest point of the Hainleite in current reference works.

particularities

The predominantly agricultural mountain is the highest point on the western Hainleite plateau. Its northern slope is forested and forms with the upstream Bergen ( Old Castle : 400 m, smoke mountain : m 416 Gemeindberg : 407 m, Feuerkuppe : 409 m), the drip line of the limestone escarpment to Nordthüringer hills . To the south, the plateau falls towards the Thuringian Basin with a flat incline to the Helbe and its tributary Rittergraben on the left.

The state road L 2083 runs over the mountain from Immenrode to Kleinfurra. Because of the wind-exposed location, a wind farm was built on the mountain plateau.
