Life

Joseph Friedrich Leopold was the father of the engraver and publisher Johann Christian Leopold . From 1695 Leopold made a lasting name for himself as a copper engraver. He founded a publishing house for sheet music , which his son soon expanded to become the most important in Augsburg in the first half of the 18th century. The importance of the company founder, however, lies primarily in the early "distribution of copied or imitated foreign ornamental forms", which he published in the form of master books and thus helped illustrated printing to flourish in Germany.

Johann Friedrich Leopold worked with various artists and artisans , for example with Johann Andreas Thelott , Albrecht Biller and Balduin Drentwett .

The German National Library counts among the colored paper makers under the heading Paper History Collections Leopold .

In 1719 Leopold took over the Augsburg publishing house from Johann Ulrich Krauss .
