Life

Thelott, from a Huguenot family who emigrated from Dijon in the 16th century and who have been in Augsburg with the goldsmiths Christoph Andreas and Cornelis Daniel Thelott since 1585 , was born as the son of the goldsmith Israel Thelott and was initially trained by him. Thelott worked temporarily with Joseph Friedrich Leopold .

Thelott is the father of the engravers Jakob Gottlieb Thelott and Johann Gottfried Thelott , grandfather of the engravers Ernst Carl Thelott and Johann Paul Thelott and great-grandfather of the portrait painters Karl Franz Joseph Thelott and Ernst Joseph Thelott .

Signatures and special features

  • As is customary in the guild , Thelott stamped silver goblets and jugs with a figure from his coat of arms, an anchor .
  • He gave Thelott's figurative driving works, for example calendars and clock plates , a personal character; he supplemented them with freely soldered figures and graded the backgrounds - unlike the usual at the time - with stronger or lesser hallmarks . In this way, the drifting work was geared more towards its superficial effect than its massiveness, correspondingly cheaper and - next to the anchor with the name Thelotts as the artist's signature.

Famous works

Thelott made numerous goldsmiths, drawings and etchings .
