Weyer Castle

The Weyer Kastell is a former manor in the Nettetal district of Breyell on the Lower Rhine . Occasionally, the actually incorrect spelling Weiher Kastell is found .

The fort was laid out as a water-reinforced three-wing complex. Its first historical mention dates back to the year 1311. The first known owners of this property were members of the extensive aristocratic family von Krickenbeck . After the destruction in the Thirty Years' War , the owners of Kamphausen had to build a new manor house, which still exists today. The two-storey building is dated to 1634 by wall anchors.

The fort is an essential testimony to Breyell's history. It has been privately owned for decades and has not been open to the public before. The current owner, Gert-Friedrich von Preußen , has been a Nettetal citizen since 2003 and is interested in opening his house for cultural events. The Jagdhornbläserkorps Schloss Krickenbeck, MGV Liedertafel Breyell and the Niederrheinchor have given concerts there.

The castle is the namesake of the annual cycle race "Around Weyer Kastell", which is organized by the sports club SC Union Nettetal.
