action

The US is trying to expand its military presence to Malaysia . During the negotiations, the American senator and his two companions are kidnapped and taken to the island of Sabah after an attack by al-Qaeda rebels . The rebels demand the release of 30 compatriots captured. Since the USA does not want to allow itself to be blackmailed, it sends an elite unit under the command of Lieutenant Andrew Peers to free the hostages. If he does not manage this within 48 hours, the hostages will be killed. For his safety, he receives a radio transmitter that he can activate and then be fetched back. Furthermore, he has the support of the Malaysian Army under the direction of Lt. Gomez.

The soldiers, with around 30 men, crossed over to the island in three boats, where they were immediately attacked by the rebels. Only seven soldiers make it into the jungle. They can win the fight against their persecutors and make their way further inland. Lt. Gomez believes her mission has failed due to the loss of personnel, but Andrew Peers explains that giving up is not an option.

The group arrives in a local village where the men are supported because they too are against the terrorists. Al-Qaeda decided to kill a hostage because of the attack against them. They send a video of the execution to the responsible military. Then they move their camp to the other end of the island. After Peers is ambushed and loses more people, he and his remaining men are also taken hostage. When the Malaysian army learns of this, they send two helicopters to the island to rescue them. These open fire on the camp and the prisoners can escape into a cave in the mess. In order to be able to flee there via a rear exit with a sufficient lead, Lt. Gomez and dies in the hail of bullets from the pursuers. The surviving four soldiers and the two hostages are taken on board by one of the helicopters and flown from the island.

criticism

The lexicon of international films ruled that the production was “a patriotic action war film.” It was criticized that “the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 [...] were misused for numerous clichés and stereotypes” .
