Whitianga Harbor is a natural harbor on the Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island of New Zealand .

The Whitianga Harbor is located on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula with access to Mercury Bay . The town of Whitianga is located directly at the port entrance and the district administrative town of Thames , which is around 35 km to the southwest, can be reached via the New Zealand State Highway 25 , which passes the natural harbor directly to the west, and via the New Zealand State Highway 25A . The body of water is one administratively for Thames-Coromandel District and Region Waikato .
The natural harbor is around 7.2 km long and measures a maximum of 1.44 km in width in the non-silted area. The entrance to the natural harbor is very narrow at around 115 m in relation to its size. The lower part of the port is navigable with boats, while the upper area and the side arms are heavily silted up and silted up. The coastline of the natural harbor extends over 14.5 km.
New development area with canals
In the western part of the town of Whitianga , a new building area with canals has arisen, where each house has its own jetty. The canals are connected to the western branch of Whitianga Harbor and thus have access to the navigable area of the harbor and Mercury Bay .
