The street village of Wiechenberg with 67 inhabitants (2000) is located halfway between Genthin and Parchen, about 500 m southeast of the B1 .

history

After the end of the Seven Years War (1756–1763) municipalities were obliged by royal order to create small settlements for the reintegration of former soldiers , including Parchen. From 1765 to 1770, 13 colonist posts with pasture and timber rights were set up under the Wiechenberg , to which soldiers, day laborers, farmers, peat cutters and traders as well as craftsmen were settled. The settlement in this very remote location from Parchen was due to the planning of an extensive renovation of the Fiener . The labor required for this should be located on the edge of the melioration area.

The building materials required for the construction of the 13 single-family houses were provided by the Parchen municipality and the state of Prussia . The houses were all laid out on the southeast side of the street. On the opposite side were narrow fields belonging to the house sites.

At first the place was called Kolonie Birkheide , Birkeide or Birkhaider . This name referred to the originally surrounding birch forests .

In 1782 Wiechenberg had 14 houses and 49 inhabitants, in 1852 there were again only 13 farms. The village has had its current name since around 1850, which is derived from the adjacent small mountain range. Wiechenberg made a living from crafts and agriculture.

In 1910, a restaurant with a hall was built on Wiechenberg directly on today's B 1, and a gatehouse was added in 1950. The restaurant was a popular excursion restaurant and was in operation as a pub until 1984.

In 1961, a fire water pond with a capacity of 100,000 liters was created. Wiechenberg's connection to the central drinking water supply did not take place until 1991.

In 1998 Wiechenberg was included in the village renewal program. In 1999, the access road to the B 1 was renewed, including a sidewalk and bike path, as well as street lighting. 125 field maples were also planted.
