history

Although Paplitz was first mentioned in a document under the name Popelitz in 1225, the settlement must have existed as early as the 10th century AD at the latest. The place name is of Slavic origin, and during that time the Jerichower Land was inhabited by Slavic tribes. Joachim von Byern, who already owned goods in Karow and Parchen, also acquired Paplitz in 1574. At that time the place belonged to the Brandenburg area and was assigned to the Ziesar district. With the Prussian administrative reform of 1815 Paplitz came to the newly formed Jerichow II district with the district town of Genthin. Since Paplitz was predominantly agricultural, the farmers were able to benefit directly from the Prussian agrarian reform of 1807. In 1831 they acquired six hectares of land for 150 thalers, which they could farm freely from then on, and replaced all feudal charges for another 150 thalers. At that time the annual income of a foreman was about ten thalers.

In 1847 Paplitz was listed in the "Topographical-Statistical Handbook of the Prussian State". The church village included a manor and a windmill.

The Genthin – Paplitz road was built in the middle of the 19th century and was later extended to Ziesar. When the administrative districts were formed in 1872, Paplitz was assigned to the Tucheim office. 1916–1917 the Güsen – Ziesar railway with a station in Paplitz was opened. However, this did not result in any further development of the place. The number of inhabitants changed only slightly from 609 in 1910 to 675 in 1933. The formerly independent Paplitz manor district was incorporated into the Paplitz rural community on August 1, 1907 with around 30 residents.

On July 1, 2009 Paplitz was incorporated into the city of Genthin together with Gladau and Tucheim. The Genthin administrative community , to which Paplitz had previously belonged, was dissolved at the same time.

politics

The last municipal council elected on June 13, 2004 consisted of eight members (7 free voter groups, 1 CDU ).

The last honorary mayor, Franz Schuster, was first elected on September 25, 1994. In the mayoral election on May 6, 2001, he received 100 percent of the valid votes.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Split by green and silver; in front a golden grain sheaf and flail at the crack, behind five green oak leaves (2: 2: 1). "

The coat of arms was designed in 1997 by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch . Until then, an image seal had existed for over 70 years, showing a scythe and rake crossed in front of a grain. The same image, however, already exists several times as the town's coat of arms, which is why the flail was chosen as a rural tool. The five oak leaves are reminiscent of the legend according to which Frederick II (Prussia) once stopped here on an inspection trip, at which point five oaks were planted.

Protected areas

Since the Fiener Bruch is one of only three breeding areas of the Great Bustard , the heaviest bird capable of flying, which is threatened with extinction in Germany , the Karow Great Bustard Sanctuary was established in 1979 in the area of the municipalities of Tucheim, Karow and Paplitz in what was then the Magdeburg district . In the 1990s, the lowland was designated as an EU bird sanctuary Fiener Bruch as part of the Natura 2000 network . In 1997, the 143 hectare nature reserve Fiener Bruch was designated within the Saxony-Anhalt sub-area . Located in Fiener break is located at belonging to Vorwerk Tucheim Königsrode in the district Paplitz the bird observatory , observation tower King Roder court. In the Königsroder Hof the Förderverein Großtrappenschutz e. V. an information center in which regular events about the protection of the great bustard take place.
