Wieland Held (born February 24, 1939 in Leipzig ; † February 23, 2003 ) was a German historian who initially worked as an ancient historian and later dealt with German history.

Wieland Held had been a member of the FDJ since 1953 and passed his Abitur in 1957. He then completed a practical year in industry until 1958 and then began studying history, German studies , pedagogy and psychology at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig (KMU) and at the Pedagogical Institute in Leipzig . In 1962 he passed the state examination and was initially a teacher of history and German at polytechnic high schools . In 1963 he passed a second state examination for teaching history at the extended high schools .

Held's doctorate took place in February 1966 with a thesis on the subject of investigations into the Roman colonies at the end of the 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd century , reviewers were Rigobert Günther and Gerhard Schrot . After that, Held first became a research assistant and later senior assistant for ancient history at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald . The PhD B took place in Leipzig in 1971 with the thesis The deepening of the general crisis in the west of the Roman Empire at the end of the 3rd and in the first half of the 4th century . After receiving his doctorate B, Held became an editor at the Bibliographisches Institut Leipzig . Since 1979 he has also taught with a teaching position in the history section of SMEs. In February 1979 he became a university lecturer in German history.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Held was newly appointed in 1992 and became a full professor for Saxon regional history at the historical seminar in Leipzig. In 1998 he had to take early retirement due to serious illness.
