The Wiener Eistraum is a mobile ice rink that has been set up every year since 1996 in an ever-expanding form on the Rathausplatz in Vienna and is one of the city's crowd- pullers.

In order to compensate for the level difference in the direction of the Burgtheater , which is barely noticeable with the naked eye , around 3,000 cubic meters of gravel and gravel material are required. The wooden construction of the ice rink will be erected by around 12 employees of Municipal Department 49 - Forestry Office and Agriculture of the City of Vienna from Naßwald in around 13 days. Of the approximately 460 cubic meters of wood that is used, around 400 cubic meters can be used again in the next year. You will find support in this, among other things, from the employees of the company who are responsible for cooling the ice surface and who have laid around 250,000 meters of cooling hoses to the three ice production machines.

In addition to the repeatedly expanded ice rinks for ice skating and curling (2003: 1,800 square meters and three curling lanes, 2007 4,400 square meters and six curling lanes), the so-called 270 meter long “dream path” came in 2005, which leads through the southern part of the Rathauspark . In 2006 this dream path was extended to a length of 350 meters or 410 meters due to the great public success and now leads to the Ringstrasse and from there back to the ice rinks.

By 2014 the entire ice surface had grown to 7,000 square meters, the dream path is 750 meters long. In 2013, there was also a 480 square meter synthetic ice rink for the first attempts without getting wet in the event of a fall.

gastronomy

In the area of the Vienna Ice Dream, which is not subject to entry, six catering establishments provide ice sports enthusiasts and onlookers with drinks ( punch , mulled wine and so on) and national and international cuisine, which contributes to the popularity of the Ice Dream. Since 2013, for environmental reasons, food and drink has no longer been served in disposable tableware or PET bottles, but exclusively in reusable tableware. The alpine hut, which is faithfully recreated and managed by the Kolarik company, is also striking.

Entertainment program

The music played to entertain the visitors to the Ice Dream comes from Radio Vienna . Additional attractions are the Vidi-Wall, on which the Ski World Championships in 1999 and the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, which were important for Austria in 2002 , were transferred to two Vidi-Walls. The presentations of musical highlights (2003: “ Wake up ”, 2004: “ Elisabeth ”, 2005: “Romeo and Juliet” and others) as well as other activities are also strong crowd pullers .
