Since 2016, the Sigmund Freud Museum has reported more than 100,000 visits per year (2017: 106,315, 2018: 109,773), and in 2017 also the Zeiss Planetarium of the City of Vienna .

swell

  • Broadcast by the federal museums on January 30, 2018
  • Broadcast by the federal museums on January 20, 2017
  • Figures for the federal museums 2010–2012 come partly from the annual culture reports of the Ministry of Education and partly from the annual reports of the respective museums. The unpaid visits to the Kunsthistorisches Museum are an average of all locations of the KHM Museum Association.
  • The figures for some federal museums for 2013 come from the data published in January 2014. Figures on the Wien Museum and the music memorials from the city's art and culture reports 2010–2012. The number of visitors to the Army History Museum is taken from the museum's annual report.

Until 2009, the figures were determined by WienTourismus , the Vienna tourism association; in the following years free admissions had to be taken into account.

For the federal museums , the 2010 cultural report published by the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture contained figures on free admission: It shows 4,190,550 visits for the eight federal museums and the national library in 2010, 1,694,349 of which were visits by non-paying visitors and mentions for the individual collections share of unpaid visits from 24% (Belvedere) to 75% (Federal Pathological-Anatomical Museum).

For the city's museums in was organized by the business group Culture and Science in the City of Vienna issued the City of Vienna in 2010 art and culture report, Mrs Kulturbericht not broken down the total number of 382,239 visits; According to information, the free entry for visitors under 19 resulted in approx. 20% of the listed number of visitors , and entry is free for all visitors every first Sunday of the month.

method

The numbers are given by the operators of the attractions. These use different methods to calculate the total number of visits. Those who act strictly and only report the total number of tickets actually issued are in competition with institutions that may only estimate the number of visitors, or those that give sponsors wholesale tickets at discounted prices that are only partially offset by actual visits (as is the case with the Kunsthalle Wien in the years prior to 2010 should have been the case). It also remains unclear in individual cases the number of visits with which buyers of annual tickets are included in the statistics. In January 2013, there were suspicions that the Kunsthaus Wien could have reported excessively high visitor numbers before the takeover by Wien-Holding. The published figures alone do not appear to be suitable as indicators of the economic success of a sight.

Frequencies of events

In addition to the permanent sights of the city, events are also very popular: the Danube Island Festival , which lasted for a weekend, had 3.3 million visits in 2015. The Vienna Music Film Festival on Rathausplatz in July and August recorded an estimated 700,000 visits in 2010.

With around 3.5 million visits a year, locals and tourists get in the mood for Christmas at the Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz, and around 650,000 people end the year with a visit to Vienna's New Year's Eve Trail . The Vienna Ice Dream , an artificial ice rink in front of the Vienna City Hall , has around 500,000 visits from January to March. The opening ceremony of the Vienna Festival in May and June on Rathausplatz was attended by around 175,000 people in 2005.

When shown more precisely, visits are to be distinguished from visitors. Who z. B. has seen films on three evenings on Rathausplatz, has made three visits, but was only one visitor.
