The Wietzer Berg is a 102 m above mean sea level high mountain in the district of Celle . It is located southwest of Müden (Örtze) and is a popular excursion destination in the otherwise mostly flat landscape in the Südheide Nature Park . The Heidschnuckenweg leads from Wietzendorf over the Wietzer Berg to Müden. The Haußelberg (118 m above sea level) is within sight ( seven kilometers as the crow flies ), on which the mathematician Gauß carried out the survey of the Kingdom of Hanover on behalf of the then King George IV . The Lönsstein, a monument reminiscent of the heather poet Hermann Löns , stands on a heather near the summit . There are five burial mounds at the foot of the mountain . They are believed to date from the late Neolithic (around 2000 BC ). They were built by local farming families. The dead were buried in their traditional costumes , as well as with the addition of battle axes and decorated cups or the like. The Müden coat of arms is shaped by the Lönsstein on the Wietzer Berg.
