Amphoe Non Thai ( Thai : อำเภอ โนนไทย ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima . The province of Nakhon Ratchasima is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Amphoe Non Thai borders the following counties (clockwise from the north): Amphoe Phra Thong Kham , Kham Sakaesaeng , Non Sung , Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima , Kham Thale So and Dan Khun Thot . All Amphoe are in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

history

The name of this area was originally Khwaeng San Thia ( แขวง สัน เที ยะ ). In 1900, Khwaeng San Thia was promoted to Amphoe and renamed Non Lao. In the following year the name was changed back to San Thia, and again to Non Lao in 1919. In the wake of growing Thai nationalism under Field Marshal Plaek Phibun Songkhram , the name was changed to Non Thai in 1939 in order to blur any reference to Laos and the Laotian population.

There are three municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

Khok Sawai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล โคก สวาย ), consisting of parts of the Tambon Sai O.
Non Thai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล โนนไทย ), consisting of parts of the Tambon Non Thai.
Banlang (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บัลลังก์ ), consisting of the entire tambon Banlang.
