Amphoe Mueang Yang ( Thai : อำเภอ เมือง ยาง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the northeast of the province of Nakhon Ratchasima . The province of Nakhon Ratchasima is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Mueang Yang District borders the following counties (from north clockwise) to the Amphoe Ban Mai Chaiyaphot , Phutthaisong and Khu Mueang of Buriram Province , and to the Amphoe Lam Thamenchai , Chum Phuang and Prathai in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima.

The largest river in the county is the Mae Nam Mun (Mun River) .

history

Based on pottery finds in Ban Mueang Yang and Ban Krabueang Nok, it can be established that the area of ​​the district was already populated in prehistoric times. There are also some small ruins of the Khmer Empire in Ban Mueang Yang and Ban Nang O.

Mueang Yang was first established on April 1, 1995 as a “branch circle” ( King Amphoe ) by separating its area from the Chum Phuang district .

On May 15, 2007 the Thai government decided to raise all 81 King Amphoe to simple amphoe status in order to unify the administration. With the publication in the Royal Gazette "Issue 124 chapter 46" on August 24, 2007 this decision officially entered into force.
