Amphoe Prathai ( Thai : อำเภอ ประทาย ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the northeast of the province of Nakhon Ratchasima . The province of Nakhon Ratchasima is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

geography

Amphoe Prathai borders the following counties (from north clockwise): Amphoe Phon and Nong Song Hong of Khon Kaen Province , Amphoe Ban Mai Chaiyaphot of Buriram Province , and Amphoe Mueang Yang , Chum Phuang , Phimai , Non Daeng , Sida and Bua Lai in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

history

The village of Prathai was founded during the Khmer Empire . When he wanted to expand his domain to the west, King Jayavarman II set up camp in this area. After his abdication, Prathai was abandoned and it was only repopulated during the Sukhothai Kingdom .

Prathai means "camp" in the Khmer language .

Tambon Prathai was separated from the Amphoe Bua Yai , and on January 1, 1961, the "Branch Circle" ( King Amphoe ) Prathai was created. This was officially upgraded to Amphoe in 1963.
