Amphoe Sung Noen (in Thai : อำเภอ สูงเนิน ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the center of the Nakhon Ratchasima Province . The province of Nakhon Ratchasima is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Sung Noen is about 36 kilometers away from the provincial capital Nakhon Ratchasima .

Neighboring circles (clockwise from north): the Amphoe Dan Khun Thot , Kham Thale So , Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima , Pak Thong Chai , Wang Nam Khiao and Sikhio . All Amphoe are in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

history

There were once two cities in Tambon Khorat, Mueang Sema ( เมือง เสมา ) and Mueang Khorakapura ( เมือง โค รา ฆ ปุ ระ ). They were near the Maenam Lam Takhong. When this dried up for a long time, the inhabitants of the two cities are said to have moved to the place where the provincial capital still stands at the time of King Narai . The Fine Arts Department has excavated there and dates Mueang Sema to the Dvaravati period.

An inscription indicates the ancient kingdom of Canasapura .

Attractions

The oval city fortifications of Mueang Sema are about 2 kilometers long and 1.4 kilometers wide. There is an almost 12 meter long reclining Buddha statue made of sandstone in Wat Thammachak .

Some ruins of Khmer temples have been found in Mueang Khorakapura ( เมือง einige รา ฆ ปุ ระ ) , for example Prasat Non Ku ( ปราสาท โนน กู่ ), Prasat Mueang Khaek ( ปราสาท เมือง แขก ) and Prasat Mueang Kao ( ปราสาท เมือง เก่า ).

The northeast section of the Thai railway runs through Amphoe Sung Soen . In addition, the district is intersected by the national roads 2 ( Thanon Mittraphap ) and 24.

There are two municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

• Kut Chik (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล กุด จิก ) consists of parts of the Tambon Na Klang and Kut Chik.
• Sung Noen (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สูงเนิน ) consists of parts of the Tambon Sung Noen.
