Amphoe Khong ( Thai : อำเภอ คง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the north of the province of Nakhon Ratchasima . The province of Nakhon Ratchasima is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Amphoe Khong borders the following counties (clockwise from north): Amphoe Ban Lueam , Bua Yai , Non Daeng , Phimai , Non Sung , Kham Sakaesaeng and Phra Thong Kham in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and Amphoe Noen Sa-nga the province of Chaiyaphum .

history

The name of the district comes from a legend according to which a hunter named Khong invited settlers to settle on this fertile land. The first settlement was therefore called Mueang Khong. The government later removed the Mueang from the name in order not to confuse it with the Amphoe Mueang , the district of the provincial capital.

In 1938, Khong became a "Branch District" ( King Amphoe ) of the Bua Yai district , and in 1947 it was officially promoted to an Amphoe.

The main town, Mueang Khong, has a train station on the northeast line of the Thai railway ( Nakhon Ratchasima – Nong Khai line ). The Thanon Mittraphap ("Street of Friendship"; National Road 2) leads through the eastern part of the district .

• Thephalai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เทพา ลัย ), consisting of parts of the tambon Thephalai.
• Mueang Khong (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เมือง คง ), consisting of parts of the Tambon Mueang Khong,
