Amphoe Sikhio (in Thai : อำเภอ สีคิ้ว ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima . The province of Nakhon Ratchasima is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

geography

Sikhio is located about 45 kilometers from the provincial capital in the Dong Phaya Yen Mountains .

The neighboring counties are (clockwise from north): Dan Khun Thot , Sung Noen and Pak Chong districts in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Muak Lek districts in Saraburi Province , and Lam Sonthi districts in Lop Buri Province .

history

Sikhio was known as Müang Nakhon Chantuek in earlier times . It was a border town between the lowlands of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ), which was inhabited by the Thai, and the Khorat plateau , which was dominated by the Lao . There are no records of its inception. The administration was located in Ban Chantuek, which is now the Chantuek train station. Nakhon Chantuek was ruled directly by the Siamese central government.

On April 1, 1898, it became an Amphoe of Nakhon Ratchasima. The administration building was moved to Ban Nong Bua in 1901, and again to Ban Sikhio in 1906. In both cases the reason given was that the previous area was contaminated with malaria.

In 1939 the district finally got its current name Sikhio.

The maximum security prison Klong Pai is located south of the city of Sikhio on the Friendship Highway ( Thanon Mittraphap ) .

traffic

The northeast line of the Thai railway runs through Amphoe Sikhio . It is also intersected by National Road 2 ( Thanon Mittraphap ), from which National Road 24 branches off in the east of the district.

Khlong Phai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล คลอง ไผ่ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Khlong Phai.
Lat Bua Khao (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ลาด บัวขาว ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Lat Bua Khao.
Nong Nam Sai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง น้ำ ใส ) consisting of the complete tambon Nong Nam Sai.
