The city is located in southern Nebraska at the intersection of Nebraska State Highways 41 and 103 about 40 km southwest of Lincoln , the capital of Nebraska. The Hallam nuclear power plant is located about 10 km northeast of Wilber .

The city was founded in 1873 and named after CD Wilber . In 1878 the county seat was moved from Pleasant Hill . Ronald Reagan named Wilber the Czech Capital of the USA on July 10, 1987 .
