Laurence Wild

Laurence Wild (born May 1, 1890 in Wilber , Saline County , Nebraska , †  May 26, 1971 in Coronado , California ) was an American naval officer. Between 1940 and 1942 he was the military governor of American Samoa .

Career

Laurence graduated Wild in the 1913 United States Naval Academy in Annapolis ( Maryland ). He then served as an officer in the United States Navy . He made it to the end of his career as a captain. He was also a successful college basketball player and coach while in college . During his military career, he was among other things communications officer for a submarine unit ( Submarin Squadron 11 ).

Between August 8, 1940 and June 5, 1942, Wild was the successor of Edward Hanson and Jesse Wallace , who had administered the office for ten days, Governor of American Samoa. He shared this role between January 17 and April 25, 1942 with Henry Louis Larsen . This led to conflicts between the two men. Larsen held the higher rank, but Wild was longer in office and was superior to Larsen. It is worth mentioning that he had an airfield built in 1941.

Nothing is known about Wild's further résumé. He died in Coronado on May 26, 1971.
