Samuel Canan

Samuel Wakefield Canan (born June 7, 1898 in Altoona , Pennsylvania , † March 1964 in Pennsylvania) was an American naval officer. In 1945 he was acting military governor of American Samoa .

Career

Samuel Canan graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis ( Maryland ) between 1916 and 1920 . In the following years he served as an officer in the United States Navy , where he made it to Commander , which roughly corresponds to a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army. Between September 3 and 10, 1945 he was acting governor of American Samoa. He bridged the time between the departure of Governor Ralph Hungerford and the inauguration of his successor Harold Houser . After the end of his short time as governor, his trail is lost. He died in Pennsylvania in March 1964.
