John Morse Haydon

John Morse Haydon (born January 27, 1920 in Billings , Montana , † 1991 ) was an American politician . Between 1969 and 1974 he was governor of American Samoa .

Career

John Haydon graduated from the University of Washington . During the Second World War he was a first lieutenant in the Air Corps of the United States Army . He flew 35 combat missions over Germany. Between 1960 and 1969 he was a member of the Seattle Port Commission and served as its President in 1963, 1968 and 1969. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He was also a member of the advisory staff of the governor of Washington , Daniel J. Evans , on Fisheries (1965-1967) and for Trade and Economic Development (1965-1969).

On August 1, 1969, John Haydon was appointed to succeed Owen Aspinall as the new governor of American Samoa. He held this office until October 14, 1974. After that, he was no longer politically active.
