John Frederick Parker

John Frederick Parker (born 1853 in Ohio ; †  December 12, 1911 ) was an American naval officer. Between 1908 and 1910 he was the military governor of American Samoa .

Career

John Parker was born in Ohio and graduated in 1874, the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis ( Maryland ). He then began an officer career in the United States Navy , in which he reached the rank of captain. During the Spanish-American War of 1898 he was deployed to Manila in the Philippines . Another of his functions was that of the military governor of American Samoa. He held this office between May 21, 1908 and November 10, 1910. He was married to Elizabeth Scott Lord, a niece of President Benjamin Harrison . During his tenure (1889-1893) Parker served as an aide on his staff. He died of a kidney infection on December 12, 1911.
