Nathan Post

Nathan Woodworth Post (born August 3, 1881 in Fonda , Pocahontas County , Iowa , †  May 30, 1938 ) was an American naval officer. In 1913 and again in 1914 he was acting military governor of American Samoa for a short time .

Career

In 1904, Nathan Post graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis ( Maryland ). He then began a long career as an officer in the United States Navy . By the end of his career he had achieved the rank of captain. He first served on the battleship USS Louisiana and then was a personnel officer in the 12th Marine District. In 1910 he led the Anwerbungsstelle the Navy in Omaha ( Nebraska ).

Between March 14 and July 14, 1913, and from October 2 to December 6, 1914, he was acting governor of American Samoa. During the First World War he also served in the Navy. In 1931 he was given command of the cruiser USS Detroit . He died on May 30, 1938.
