history
In 1870 the place was founded under the name Marvin after the train station of the then Illinois Central and Cedarville after the name of the post office in the newly established Cedar Township. In 1874, the use of two names for the settlement ended and the name Fonda , which goes back to a town in the state of New York , was used. Ten years later, Fonda was incorporated as an independent municipality.
