The Sioux Falls Regional Airport ( IATA : FSD , ICAO : KFSD ), also known as Joe Foss Field is known, the city's airport Sioux Falls in Minnehaha County in the southeast of the US -amerikanischen state of South Dakota . It is the largest airport in the state in terms of passenger numbers.
The airport is owned by the City of Sioux Falls and operated by the Sioux Falls Regional Airport Authority .
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) classifies the airport, which is part of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems, as a primary commercial service airport based on the number of 367,874 departing passengers .
On the grounds of the airport is the Joe Foss Field Air National Guard Station , the main base of the Air National Guard of South Dakota.
Location and transport links
The airport is located directly on the Big Sioux River , not far from the intersection of the three states of South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa . It has direct access to the South Dakota Highway 115 . Interstate 90 runs north of the airport in an east-west direction . Interstate 29 runs to the west and Interstate 229 , the eastern bypass of Sioux Falls, a few kilometers east .
Airport facilities
The 635 hectare airport has a control tower and three runways, each with a concrete surface. There is a passenger terminal with passenger boarding bridges and a baggage handling system . The rental car companies Avis , Enterprise , Hertz , and National have bases in the reception building.
Airplanes and aircraft movements
A total of 111 aircraft are stationed at the airport. Of these, 55 are single-engine and 34 multi-engine propeller planes as well as four jet jets. The Air National Guard has 18 aircraft stationed at its base.
Of the average 185 flight movements per day, 38 percent can be assigned to general aviation and 43 percent to air taxi traffic. Scheduled flights make up ten percent. There are also around eight percent military aircraft movements.
