Harold Alexander Houser

Harold Alexander Houser (born March 31, 1897 in Fort Valley , Peach County , Georgia - † September 3, 1981 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an admiral in the United States Navy . He also served as the 35th Governor of American Samoa from September 10, 1945 to April 22, 1947 .

Houser graduated from the Marion Military Institute before being called to the United States Naval Academy in 1917 . During his career in the Navy, he has held numerous positions including command of Naval Air Station Key West and artillery officer aboard the USS Omaha (CL-4) .

During his time as governor, he represented the United States at a meeting of the great powers of the Pacific , in which Australia and New Zealand also took part. After the end of this legislature, he was appointed Rear Admiral and served as director of the Office of Legislative Liaison .
