Henry Francis Bryan

Henry Francis Bryan (born May 3, 1865 in Cincinnati , Ohio , †  March 19, 1944 in Meriden , Connecticut ) was an American naval officer. Between 1925 and 1927 he was the military governor of American Samoa .

Career

Henry graduated from Bryan in the 1887 United States Naval Academy in Annapolis ( Maryland ). He then served on various warships as an officer in the United States Navy , including the USS Newark . He also took part in the Spanish-American War of 1898 . In 1921 he was the commander of the Special Service Squadron , which at that time was protecting American interests , especially in Panama and Costa Rica . In the meantime he was also active in naval intelligence. When he retired from the military, he had made it to the position of rear admiral.

In 1925 he was reactivated and appointed governor of American Samoa. He held this office as the successor to Edward Stanley Kellogg between March 17, 1925 and September 9, 1927. During this time, he called the Department of Communication into being. Henry Bryan died on March 19, 1944 in Meriden.
