Allen Hobbs

Allen Hobbs (born July 30, 1899 in Lowell , Massachusetts , †  November 23, 1960 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American naval officer. He was the military governor of American Samoa in 1944 and 1945 .

Career

Allen Hobbs was the grandson of Charles Herbert Allen (1848–1934), who was Congressman for Massachusetts and Governor of Puerto Rico . He served in the United States Navy , where he rose to captain. Hobbs worked on the water survey in Suitland, Maryland. Between February 8, 1944 and January 27, 1945 he was governor of American Samoa as successor to John Gould Moyer during World War II . On August 30, 1948, he was appointed head of the naval survey of waters. He died on November 23, 1960 at the Bethesda Naval Hospital .
