Wildenstein (Styrian noble family)
Wildenstein (also barons , later counts of Wildenstein or Wildenstain ) is the name of an ancient Styrian noble family that lived in Carinthia before 1348 .
history
Origin and possessions
The Wildensteiners got their name after the headquarters they built, Wildenstein Castle in Carinthia . This was destroyed by the earthquake in Friuli and Carinthia in 1348 . The Wildenstein waterfall and the Wildenstein district ( Podkanja vas ) of the cadastral municipality of Gallizien are a reminder of the former castle. The loss of their headquarters led the Wildenstein family to Styria .
The sex is said to have originally lived in Bavaria (Franconia; Palatinate). It is said to have branched out to Carinthia and Styria, where it gained great possession and political power until it finally spread to Silesia. In 1156 an Uveriand de Wildenstein was named as a witness in a deed of donation from Duke Bertolt von Maranien in favor of the Cistercian monastery Viktring near Klagenfurt .
Nobilitations and dynastic marriages
The Wildensteiners received the hereditary Austrian baron and later the title of count. Through their daughters and daughters-in-law, the family was bound by dynastic marriages with the formerly "most handsome families in Austria". These include the noble families Thurn , Welzer , Herberstein , Saurau , Gallenstein, Teuffenbach , Attems , Keutschach , Khuenburg , Steinpeiß , Trauttmansdorff , Gloyach , Zöllner, Wagensberg , Schrattenbach and Wurmbrand .
